The southern region is a unique place for diversified ethnics with their untouched culture. Surma & Mursi (both ethnic’s women cut their lips to insert the clay plates as a sign of beauty), Hamer, Bena & etc. Bull Jumping rituals being performed by Hamers- frequented between Septembers – October and at random time before/after the main rainy season (February – April). DONGA - stick fighting of the Surma ritual performed mostly in every September, and many more.

Day 1:
City tour of Addis Ababa |
Morning; be arrived at Addis Ababa Bole International Air Port. You will meet with us at the Air port and transfer you to Ghion Hotel for Check – in. After breakfast; City Tour of Addis - Overnight – at a 4* - Addis Ababa. |
Day 2:
Lakes and Yirgalem |
After breakfast; drive to Yirgalem. En route it’s possible to see one of the two Lakes at Debre Zeyit (Hora & Bishoftu), and then proceed to the lake Ziway. Excursions on the Ziway-lake (largest of the northern group of Rift Valley Lakes) for several birds. Continue to Lake Langano. Lunch (typical fish-meal) – after lunch visit Abiata, shallow and saline then drive to Awassa at (taste Awassa fresh fish) before driving to Yirgalem. After 45 km drive from Awassa we will reach at Yirgalem, where we can see a large coffee plantation in the town – Overnight – at Aregash Lodge – Yirgalem |
Day 3:
Yabello |
After breakfast; drive to Yabello crossing the fertile land mainly cultivated with bananas, and coffee plantation inhabited by the Sidamo people.At Wenago, visit the Tutu Fella stelae archeolical site – a unique collection of carved stones. Then continue to Yabello visiting the local people Borana (semi-nomadic herd’s men) on the way. Overnight – at best hotels (Yabello Motel) – Yabello |
Day 4:
Singing Wells & Chew Beth (El Sod) |
After breakfast; drive to El Sod (Salt House), to Mega road. On the way, visit Dublock (Borena Village), and Singing Wells.
Singing Wells- The Borena ethnics move every time in groups across a large area in search of food and water for their herds of zebu cattle. The zebu cattle are poorly adapted to the torrid desert heat so they must be watered regularly at the desert wells – about 30 meters deep. While watering their cattle the Borena have special songs. For this reason, morning, we will visit them there singing at their wells. If this day falls on Saturday; we will drive back to Yabello for the colourful market; largely formed by the Borena pastoralists. Overnight – at best hotels (Yabello Motel) – Yabello |
Day 5:
Konso |
Today; after breakfast; we will drive to Konso (Unesco World Heritage Site) – The people of Konso are well known for their intricately terraced hillsides, fine woven materials and the carved totems made from wood & with which they decorate their graves(mainly the king & his wife). After 105km drive from Yabello; we will be arriving at the town of Konso. Here; you explore Gesergiyo (New York)-magnificent rock formation, The Konso King & Konso villages. Overnight – at best local hotel - Konso |
Day 6:
Turmi |
After breakfast; drive to Turmi. At key Afer; stopover for ethnical market and proceed passing the Weyto-river to Turmi. Information will be gathered if there is bull jumping ritual, or a Hamer wedding party in the neighbourhood of Turmi – Overnight (optional) - stay at Hamer village, lodge, at best local Hotel or Camping9 kindly recommend) - Turmi |
Day 7:
Omorate -Dassenech Ethnics, Turmi Mkt. |
After breakfast; drive from Turmi to the small town of Omorate (75km rough road). Then Cross the River Omo by a simple boat and explore the Dassenech ethnics. Then, drive back to Turmi for a colorful Monday Market where the ethnic Hamars are dominant. Late afternoon; visit the Hamar-villages.
The Hamers are a fine looking people, both men and women take great pride in their appearance, shaving and colouring their hair, oiling their bodies and decorating themselves with beads and bracelets worn around arms and legs. Late afternoon; approach to a Hamer village to attend the Evangadi Dance of the Hamar-people. Overnight at the former place. - Turmi |

Day 8:
Karo Ethnics |
After breakfast; drive from Turmi to Karo through the savanna land (Murulle excursion) to Karo ethnics. (60km rough road).visit some of Karo villages of Dus and Korocho. The Karos are mainly known for their special hairstyle and body paintings. Drive back to Turmi for overnight at the former place Turmi. |
Day 9:
Dimeka market & Jinka |
After breakfast; drive to Jinka (140km). On the way; visit the colorful Dimeka Market (Every Tuesday & Saturday).Overnight – at Resort Hotel- Jinka. |
Day 10:
Mago National Park |
After breakfast; drive to Mago National Park. People of Mursi are dwelling here. We, therefore, discover the Mursi lifestyle with their village. The insertion of wood plate and terracotta (clay plate) discs into the ear lobes is a widespread custom and Mursi women progressively split and stretch their lower lips to make room for similar discs. Drive back to Jinka & afternoon; visit Jinka ethnological museum. Overnight – at Resort Hotel- Jinka |
Day 11:
Arba Minch |
After breakfast; drive to Arba Minch (241km). On the way, explore (if missed on day11) the Thursday market of Key Afer (41km from Jinka). In the market; the Tsemay, Ari and Bena people are dominant. Proceed to Arba Minch. Overnight at a 3* hotel or lodge - Arba Minch |
Day 12:
Nechsar national Park & Lake Chamo |
After breakfast; drive to NechSar National Park for Swayne’s Hartebeest, Bruchell’s Zebra, dik-diks, greater kudu, warthogs, bush pigs ,Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle ,variety of birds: storks, pelicans, vultures, buzzards .... Majestic volcanic hills on the eastern boundary of the park. After getting satisfied with what is in the park, get back to Arba Minch & boat trip on Lake Chamo in the late afternoon to see hippos and about 6-meter-long crocodiles. After the lake we will drive to the crocodile breeding site in the town of Arba Minch for enormous different sized/aged crocodiles. Overnight at a 3* hotel or lodge - Arba Minch |
Day 13:
Langano |
After breakfast; drive to Langano (293km asphalt road). On the way; visit the hill top of Chencha for Dorze ethnics. Dorze people have their own style of weaving cotton clothes & of their bee-hive shaped houses. While proceeding towards Addis; visit the Wolayta People and explore the rift valley lakes of Abiyata Shalla for the Ostrich Farm, different species of Aquatic birds like the Pink Flamingos, Dukes, Gosse, and many others. Lake Langano - fresh breath taking atmosphere. Lake Langano with its beautiful white sand beach is bilharzias and crocodile free. Possible activities at this lake: swimming trek along the shores, bird watching in the forests along the shores.... Overnight – at a 3* hotel or lodge - Langano |
